Driving back from taking my awesome girlfriend out for lunch today, I spotted a Facet-Tech SUV waiting to cross Speer at Downing, complete with a draconian array of lenses and fancy-looking tech perched on top. I did a little research on the company after work and found out (thanks to Gizmodo, whose image I shamelessly stole above because I broke the cardinal rule of photojournalism and didn’t have a camera on me when I saw it) that Microsoft is employing the company to create the images for their Live.com competitor to Google’s StreetView.
So will Denver be one of the test markets for the new service? It worked for Google. Right about a year ago when Streetview was first unveiled in late May, Denver was one of only five cities to get the city-level colonoscopy. It was low-resolution and really limited, but it was awesome. Now the Street View extends from FoCo to Castle Rock and throughout the entire metro area.
Time will tell.
