The end of Brofax

I purchased brofax.com while home sick with the flu last January, and it’s been one of the most educational decisions I’ve ever made under the influence of a high fever.

I’ve learned more about the culture of blogging, CSS, design, SEO, WordPress and the ungraceful ballet required to keep all of the various Web 2.0 services working in concert in that year than any classroom or seminar could have possibly taught me.

Forcing myself to photoblog

Over at the Web site/newspaper where I am the managing editor, I’ve been trying to figure out ways to have fun and be creative on its admittedly very dated framework.

The best I could come up with was a personal challenge-turned-project where I take and post one photo every day for six months on my work blog:http://denver.yourhub.com/~eric Needless to say, besides the ridiculous amount of work I have to do to keep all 45 Web sites and 18 print editions running smoothly (I’m the only manager for the entire staff), taking and posting all of those photos is quite a timesink as well, albiet a welcome one. Watching an institution cover its own death

I just can’t really wrap my mind around the fact that the Rocky Mountain News is for sale, and by all accounts, going to simply stop existing before St. Patrick’s Day.

I know most, if not all, of the people on that floor at least a little bit and worked side-by-side with them during the Democratic National Convention this summer and they are resolutely the kindest and most skilled journalists you are apt to find working in Colorado or just about anywhere else.
